MOCCA Done, TCAF Next

It’s all blurry and hastily framed, but that up there is the only picture we have to remember MOCCA by. It was pretty fun and we met all kinds of nice people, and we now have a new assortment of nice work by nice people to show for it: Jesse Lonergan‘s high flyer no.1 (picked up at the Boston Comics Roundtable table), something called MOGMAN by Gustavson/Peck, and a really cool concertinatically unfolding silk-screened artist book by Kim Ku, called “Under The Sea.”

I, Jesse, am now resettled at home here in Oakland, but Veronica’s going on to TCAF, to Ontario’s Toronto, to sizably deepen her 2012 comic book festival memories. She’ll be sharing table 114, May 5 and May 6.

Incidentally, the 3rd edition of the first Scaffold comic is in the shop. The indexing has changed because we rethought the way certain pages should be panelized and counted, plus we added some altogether new pages/panels. So it used to be I – XII and now it’s I – XXII. Anyway, the new one will hopefully establish a precedent for all future issues in that there’s a chromatically iterable cover design and a bookmark/map attached to the back (see some pictures to get the idea). The second issue (XXIII – XLIV) will be available in the shop either this week or next.

This is a detail from the first fully inked page for SCAFFOLD XXIII – XLIV. We should have the new comic printed and bound by the end of the month. Just in time for our mini tour to the MoCCA Festival in New York on April 28th and 29th and then the Toronto Comic Arts Festival on May 5th and 6th.

“Once Upon A Time, Happily Ever After” Fundraising

Our friend Scott Oliver just started a fundraising effort to help finish his Once Upon A Time, Happily Ever After project. He’s using a new funding platform called USA Projects, which is like Kickstarter but focused more tightly on artist-driven endeavors (you have to be a USA Fellow, or the past recipient of some other specific grant/award/residency to even be eligible).

Scott’s project is on there now and ready for some serious cash infusion. Go on and have a look. Sound files for the first leg of the audio tour are also available for download on the main project site.

Incidentally, this is the very same project for which Veronica designed an original silk screen print: Before The Lake There Was Swamp. And both of us chipped in some miscellaneous design work on other aspects of the project (audio tour map, Lake Merritt signage).
